Our goal

Plant 4 India is building a model of grassroots ecological restoration. We support young people to grow into environmental leaders and work on climate change mitigation across rural India.

Our goal is to empower rural and tribal communities in their struggle with climate change and give them locally appropriate and easily applicable tools to do so. We adopt an approach that is integrated, community-oriented and collaborative. Plant 4 India fellows live in simple off-grid sustainable campuses in the field. They work hands-on with local communities on a daily basis and develop strong ties of trust and mutual understanding. This allows fellows to bring in a new perspective on climate issues and implement long-lasting changes that are supported and carried forward by the communities.

Plant 4 India Fellows plant indigenous food-bearing trees and deploy watershed management techniques and lead the restoration efforts by example. The Fellows also train the local community in the above techniques and build the right knowledge, skills and mindset to empower them and to ensure long-term impact. After their intervention, fellows provide long-term follow-up, visiting intervention sites regularly and making themselves available for any queries, improvements or changes to the work.

The Plant 4 India model aims not only to improve the resilience of the natural environment, but also the resilience and confidence the people themselves will need in order to face the challenges that lie ahead
